The Center for BioProcess Engineering (BioEng) is a research center at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, DTU.The research in focus in BioEng includes a broad spectrum of disciplines and methodologies relevant for converting biomass (through enzymatic and microbial processing) into higher value products.

The post doc position is focusing on discovery of new microbial enzymes in order to design new and efficient biorefinery processes: 

  • Bioinformatics, handling data of DNA, RNA and proteins; from both pro- and eukaryotes (including several taxonomic groups of fungi)
  • Molecular Biology for Enzyme Discovery: protein cloning, expression, and characterization
  • Chemical composition analysis of a spectrum of organic biomasses  
  • Design of enzyme mediated biomass conversion processes
  • Evaluation of sustainability of the new processes

Responsibilities and tasks
The research activities/tasks of the Post Doc position include: enzyme discovery for conversion of recalcitrant polymers; microbial and microbial enzyme mediated processes for biomass-based feed and food ingredients; aiming at developing enzymatic processes for refining of various components of understudied and un og underexploited types of biomass (beyond plant derived lignocellulose).

Qualifications
The post doc position requires: 

  • A PhD degree or equivalent.
  • A broad background in and documented experience from experimental molecular biotechnology (eukaryotes and prokaryotes; DNA, RNA, Enzymes)
  • A strong record in mastering state of the art bioinformatics tools of relevance for Enzyme discovery for biomass conversion
  • Most importantly combined with documented (by scientific publications) experience in working with proteinaceous biomass and understudied recalcitrant complex biomass such as keratin.
  • And combined with experience within analysis of substrate composition (sugar polymers and proteins) for microbial/enzymatic conversion of new types of biomass (of animal, algal, fungal or unique plant origin)

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 1 year starting from 1 June 2018. Weekly working hours are 37.

The employment is at Center for BioProcess Engineering (BioEng), Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby Campus.
