The European Research Council recognizes the excellent research developed during Prof. Georgios M. Kontogeorgis’ ERC Advanced Grant project "New Paradigm in Electrolyte Thermodynamics", and it grants a Proof of Concept project for further work to enable the progress from ground-breaking research towards innovation.
The new project “Modern Equation of State for Electrolytes – ElectroSAFT” aims to develop and make available in various forms an equation of state for electrolyte solutions, eSAFT-VR Mie. Electrolyte solutions are found in many applications from CO2 capture to biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. The developed model can be applied across a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and solvents, solving the problems of currently used models in industry and research for systems involving electrolytes.
The aim is to integrate the model into a user-friendly tool featuring a Guided User Interface (GUI) and a user model interface for commercial simulators, allowing the non-expert user to apply the model in day-to-day work. At the end of the project, the tool will be available under various licenses and conditions (1-academic use license, 2-non-comercial industrial license available to the two industrial consortia: CERE and KT Consortium, 3- commercial use licenses for any entity interested in buying it). This strategy will facilitate wider distribution and testing, thereby promoting the development of a robust tool relevant, but not limited to industry and academia.
