The Danish Polymer Centre at Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering conducts research and teaches at all levels in the field of polymers and materials science. Research projects cover broadly across materials science, with projects focused on elastomers, electroactive materials, composites, coatings, bio-based polymers and functional surfaces.

In this specific case, there is a postdoc position available in the field of polymer synthesis and characterization. The postdoc will be affiliated to multiple research projects, working in collaboration with several partners from academia and industry on synthesis of polymers and formulation of biopolymer composites.

Responsibilities and tasks
We are looking for a candidate interested in working on practical application of polymer chemistry in industrially funded projects, as well as on the interface with other research fields, such as bio-catalysis or composite processing. Your tasks will include: 

  • Purification of monomers and synthesis of polymers from raw mixtures.
  • Preparation of biopolymer composites
  • Formulation of emulsion systems based on a broad range of polymers
  • Synthesis of new polymers from bio-based raw materials
  • Assist students in their projects at all levels from bachelor to master and PhD level.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The following qualifications are desired:
  • PhD degree in materials science, polymer synthesis or similar
  • Laboratory experience in conducting polymerizations and working under inert conditions.
  • Experience with polymer synthesis and characterization
  • A strong analytical basis, covering NMR, IR, SEC, DSC and TGA.
  • Knowledge of rheology
  • Solid writing skills
  • Ability to communicate polymer chemistry to non-specialists and to collaborate with researchers in other fields

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. 

The position is for one year and is available from May 1, 2020 or according to mutual agreement.
