A postdoctoral position, starting early January 2020 or as soon as possible after that, is available in the area of thermodynamics of electrolyte solutions.

Responsibilities and tasks
The position refers to the development, validation and application of new molecular thermodynamic models for chemical systems with strong Coulombic interactions.  The models will be equations of state rooted to statistical mechanics while extensive molecular simulations with state-of-the art non-polarizable and polarizable force fields will be performed to support the development of the models.

The appointment will be at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (Center for Energy Resources Engineering) but the appointee is expected to spend most of his/her time at The Molecular Thermodynamics and Modelling Materials Laboratory (MTMML) of the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSRD) in Aghia Paraskevi, Greece.

The project is part of an ERC Advanced Grant entitled “New Paradigm in Electrolyte Thermodynamics” and is expected to involve travels and interactions with other researchers employed under the same project.

An ideal candidate for the position is expected to have: 

  • A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics or Physical Chemistry with his/her thesis in the area of molecular thermodynamics of complex chemical systems, preferably related to electrolyte thermodynamics,
  • Excellent programming skills in Fortran or C / C++
  • A proven track record of successfully delivering complex software development projects
  • Strong cross-platform development skills (Linux, Windows) using modern toolkits
  • A strong publication record,
  • Good interpersonal communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is for two years.
