Reactive Separation Technology

The purpose of the Bioeng research within the area of Separation Technology is to develop and evaluate separation methods and processes for integrating separation into novel biorefinery concept developments. The research focus is particularly on membrane technology for separation, fractionation and purification of mixed biomass substrates or of compounds resulting from enzymatic reactions or other key steps in biorefinery processes by:

  • Providing new knowledge about the influence of operational variables to control flux and retention through the membranes

  • Integrating the enzyme reaction and membrane separation to maximize conversion and/or productivity
