DTU Chemical Engineering seeks a PhD candidate for a research project on experimental characterization and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of the hydrodynamics in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) system for catalytic cracking of sugars.

The project is part of the OxyCrack project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, Haldor Topsøe and the Technical University of Denmark.

The content of the project includes: 

  • Literature survey of circulating fluidized bed systems
  • Experimental investigation of the hydrodynamics in a cold CFB system
  • Development and validation of CFD models for the hydrodynamics in the cold CFB system
  • CFD modelling of a pilot-scale CFB system for sugar cracking

The CFD simulations in the project will be carried out using ANYSY Fluent and/or CPFD Barracuda.

Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering. Candidates with knowledge in computational fluid dynamics will be preferred. Candidates should speak and write English fluently and have good communications skills.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
