A Postdoc position in Microfluidics is available at the DTU Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, jointly between: Centre for Oil and Gas (DHRTC) and Centre for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE).

A support is granted for a one-year postdoctoral research project "Mobilization of the residual oil by salinity gradients".

Responsibilities and tasks
Your task will be to build a microfluidics setup intended to verify the formulated hypothesis. The experimental design should be such that single droplets are monitored in capillaries while changing the brine composition in order to prove or to reject the formulated hypothesis. 

  • You will be responsible for building the setup and carrying the experiments
  • You will contribute to the choice of the experimental strategy
  • You will collaborate about the interpretation of the experimental results, both theoretical and practical
  • You will be part of a research group and will have an opportunity to discuss it with the relevant colleagues

The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Alexander Shapiro and Advisor Simon Ivar Andersen with possible co-supervision from other involved researchers.

A candidate for the position should: 

  • Have a Ph.D. degree (M.Sc.) in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering or other relevant areas;
  • Possess developed laboratory skills in the area of microfluidics;
  • Be familiar with the hydrodynamics and physical chemistry of the surfaces;
  • Have good writing skills in English;
  • Exhibit the interest to innovative and independent research

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is one year.

CERE is specialized on applied thermodynamics, including surface physical chemistry. Among its competences there are behavior of the mixtures and flows in porous media, also with application to the problems of petroleum engineering. The aim of the DHRTC is to improve the recovery of the hydrocarbon resources of the North Sea. In order to find the answer to declining oil production, the Center collaborates with the researchers at the DTU, and generally in Denmark and abroad. The proposed project is a part of this collaboration. Both CERE and DHRTC have a qualified research and technical personnel and advanced laboratory facilities, on which the present project may rely.
