A research project with the aim of designing and developing a new air-pollutant sensor system that can be used to minimize the emissions of harmful particles and gases including tar, soot and organic compounds from small combustion units have just stated and a PhD project will be  a part of the project. The project will be conducted in close collaboration between the stove manufacturer HWAM A/S, DTU Chemical Engineering, DTU Fotonik and Prevas.
 
The PhD study will take place at the CHEC Research Centre focusing on chemical engineering principles applied in combustion, harmful emission control, gasification, catalysis, and advanced measuring technology.

Responsibilities and tasks

The PhD student will participate in the project work concerning optimisation of the new sensor system and optimisation of the combustion process together with the researchers at DTU and the industrial partners.

The candidate should preferably have experience with experimental work and in-depth knowledge within the areas: combustion processes, formation and reduction of emissions, and conventional and advanced optical measuring methods.   
 
Qualifications
Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.
 
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
 
Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Senior Advisor Jytte Boll Illerup, Senior Researcher Sønnik Clausen, and Professor Peter Glarborg.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.

The workplace is DTU Lyngby and Risø Campus, and HWAM A/S Hørning.
