PROSYS research center at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is looking for talented postdoctoral candidates. The goal of Process Systems Engineering group at PROSYS is to develop and validate state-of-the-art CAPE/PSE methods and tools, and the technologies for future chemical and bio-based processes.The postdoc position offered here is part of the DFF (Danish Council for Independent Researcher) funded Propharm project.

The ProPharm project aims at overcoming the limitations in developing optimal pharmaceutical process development for both early-stage and late-stage drug development studies. The project will advance predictive modeling for process development and optimization of pharmaceutical crystallization process and focused experimentations to meet the increasing validation demand of models. By using the validated models and simulation tools, in turn the project will enable the innovative process design and promote a substantial improvement in pharmaceutical process development efficiency.

Responsibilities and tasks
The research will primarily focus on customizing the state-of-the-art in multi-scale modeling for industrially relevant applications of crystallization process. This work includes the following tasks (1) developing models fits for the purpose of applications in industrial crystallization (2) advanced statistical analysis with focused experimental strategies to meet the increasing demand for model validation and reliability for scale up and optimization, (3) tools integration for model-based enabling technology for in silico design and optimization.

The expected outcome is a computational framework to design and validate optimal operation and control strategies that includes methods for numerical solution, database, control and optimization and uncertainty analysis to quantify the risk associated with uncertainties in data and modeling.

Other content of the position: 

  • Contributing to and supporting project management tasks
  • Co-supervising relevant PhD and MSc projects in the area of advanced modelling and simulation for in-silico process design and optimization
  • Contributing to teaching in graduate courses such as process design and risk assessment.
  • Contributing to research project proposal writing

The position provides excellent opportunities to further develop skills and competences in multi-partner collaborative scientific research, project management and teaching in the area of process systems engineering as well as exposure to a strong network of academics and industrial partners at European and international levels.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

Further qualifications: 

  • Modeling and simulation (property and process modelling), numerical methods, mathematical programming ( optimization) (Matlab Simulink knowledge is desirable).
  • Crystallization & bioseparation processes and process design, control and optimization with applications in food, biotech or pharma sectors.
  • Experience with process simulators (e.g. Aspen, ProII, gProms, etc) for research and teaching applications

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 1.5 years.
