The Hempel Foundation Coatings Science and Technology Centre (CoaST), DTU Chemical Engineering is presently seeking a skilled and experienced technical assistant who will help the CoaST Technical team support the activities in CoaST.

CoaST covers coatings technologies from raw materials, over formulation, test and characterization to production and application. In the broad perspective, CoaST will support development, production and application of coatings with improved sustainability profiles over the lifetime of the coating. Areas of research include e.g. anticorrosive coatings for steel structures, blade coatings for wind turbines, intumescent coatings for passive fire protection, antifouling coatings for ships, coatings for the cement- and mineral industries, for oil and gas pipelines at high temperature and high pressure etc.

The mission of CoaST is to establish a strong research, innovation and education environment, and develop new and improved methods and technologies for the formulation, testing, characterization, production and application of coatings.

The job
The candidate reports to the Technical Manager in CoaST and will work closely together with technicians, researchers, and other personnel inside and outside DTU Chemical Engineering. Main tasks amongst others:

  • Assist CoaST Technical Team within formulation, testing and application area.
  • Prepare experimental paints and test specimens
  • Evaluate experimental coating systems according to agreed methods and standards
  • Be responsible for paint application with specialized equipment.
  • Keep accurate and complete records and produce quality reports of your laboratory activity
  • Ensure availability of raw materials, oversee stock and order when needed.
  • Receive ordered raw materials, organize distribution within the laboratories and maintain raw material database

Our expectations of you
A successful candidate must be able to work in a technically diverse environment and to adapt to changing requirements. We work in a busy environment, so we expect you to thrive on having many open and ongoing tasks/projects. You may have a BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, but more importantly, we expect you to have:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a coatings laboratory
  • Attention to details
  • Good problem-solving skills and be able to think outside the box
  • Good team-working skills
  • Good time and management skills and an ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Analytical skills
  • The ability to learn specific practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems
  • A high level of enthusiasm and commitment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant agreement. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
