The research center CERE at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering seeks a qualified candidate for a PhD position in the area of Thermodynamic and Physical Properties as Basis for Digitalization of Glycol Processes.

The goal of the project is to develop data and thermodynamic models (equations of state) as a basis for developing online models for monitoring and predictive maintenance of glycol processes for unmanned operations. This will involve both experimental and modelling work.

Responsibilities and tasks
The responsibilities and tasks are as follows:

xperimental work: Phase equilibrium of glycols and water in equilibrium with natural gas in a wide temperature and pressure range will be measured. The glycols used in experiments will at least include MEG and TEG, and may include salts. An existing high pressure VLLE cell will be used and a new high temperature VLE synthetic cell will be commissioned.

If relevant for the project, some work may also be carried out at Equinor’s facilities in Norway. Measurements will mainly be for understanding phase equilibrium (phase compositions) but other properties are also needed with very high accuracy. These include glycol density and heat capacities.

Modelling work: New parameters and improved numerical robustness of the CPA-EoS is the major goal.

The project will consist of the following components:

  • Compare models to field data for glycol processes, including also process simulation;
  • Summarize need for experimental data and model improvements;
  • Experimental work;
  • Modelling work

Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
