Process Modelling, Simulation and Design
The research and innovation of new chemical and bio-chemical processes often involves process modelling and simulation, a growing research area to enable model-based engineering applications. The application range of model-based engineering covers different stages of process development: from conceptual process design and synthesis to process scale-up and optimization.
The research and innovation of new chemical and bio-chemical processes often involves process modelling and simulation. When these are applied to already available industrial processes for optimization and further development, the area is known as model-based engineering. The model-based engineering is an enabling technology that supports different engineering tasks from conceptual process design, process synthesis to process scale-up and optimization. Modelling plays an important role in this model-based engineering paradigm.
To this end, we integrated classical/first-principles process modelling with emerging data-driven modelling approaches such as Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as their hybrid integration as appropriate to the modelling needs. The output here is fit-for-purpose process and property models to support in silico/enabling tools for development and characterization of lab, pilot and full-scale processes.
Modelling and simulation are increasingly considered and used across many industries especially life sciences and their importance and relevance is expected to increase in the coming years especially given the big data analytics and digitalization initiatives.
In addition, availability of Digital Twins allows efficient use of materials and energy leading to higher process efficiency and economy, lower environmental impact and better resource usage.
At KT Consortium we have a vast expertise with numerous types of processes:
- Classic and novel chemical processes
- Oleochemical processes
- CO2 capture and utilisation
- Wastewater treatment processes (plantwide modelling, simulation and benchmarking)
Most of our projects in this area are with direct collaboration with industry.
